Rosenwald Film Screening & Post-Show Dialogue

The Center for the Healing of Racism, in partnership with The Samuel Walker Houston Museum & Cultural Center, invites the community to a screening of Rosenwald, a documentary exploring a remarkable partnership that helped transform educational opportunities for African American communities across the South.

The film tells the story of Julius Rosenwald, the son of an immigrant peddler who rose to lead Sears, and his partnership with African American educator and activist Booker T. Washington. Together, their efforts helped build approximately 5,400 schools for African American children in the Jim Crow South.

Rosenwald also supported YMCAs and housing for African Americans in response to the needs created by the Great Migration. The Rosenwald Fund supported influential artists and cultural figures including Marian Anderson, Woody Guthrie, Langston Hughes, Gordon Parks, and Jacob Lawrence.

A post-show dialogue will follow the screening.
