NELSON-MANDELA-INTERNATIONAL-DAY

“Facing the Truth with Bill Moyers ”

screening & discussion

Join the Center for the Healing of Racism as we recognize Nelson Mandela International Day. In November 2009, the UN General Assembly declared 18 July “Nelson Mandela International Day” in recognition of the former South African President’s contribution to the culture of peace and freedom.
The Center is screening “Facing the Truth”. “Facing the Truth” offers stories of South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings that offer American audiences their first full account of the unprecedented investigation into human rights violations, interviews with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, apartheid victims, former officers of state security, freedom fighters, journalists, and eyewitnesses reveal the difficulties of mending a nation bitterly divided by race and oppression. The documentary is a chance for Americans to reflect on race relations and reconciliation at home.
