Juneteenth Ally Award Barbecue Luncheon

This year’s Ally Awards are honoring posthumously three amazing leaders from the Houston area: Reverend William “Bill” Lawson, Rabbi Samuel Karff, and Archbishop Joseph Fiorenza, known widely as “The Three Amigos”! “The Three Amigos”, as they named themselves, worked together to bring moral leadership to our community, bridging religious, political, and racial divides. Their work included:
- Establishing the Public Defender’s Office
- Fighting homelessness and poverty
- Interfaith unity
Together they united the Houston community and made giant leaps in improving conditions for all Houstonians, no matter what religion, ethnic group, or skin color. Gone, but never forgotten!
We are also honoring another local ally, Marjorie Joseph (M.J.), managing director of BLD Power (Build Power). Her career also includes serving as the Founder and CEO of Gibbous Phase, and as the former Executive Director of Houston Coalition Against Hate — a collective impact network of 65+ community-based organizations, institutions, and leaders dedicated to reducing hate and encouraging belonging. We are proud to present her with an Ally Award!
